NYC Health and Hospitals Lincoln will host an Immunization Health Fair for children ahead of 2025 school year.
"Kids, in general, are the most vulnerable to these kind of illnesses. One of the safest and most effective ways we can be able to help our children is through vaccinations," said Dr. Joseph Ssenyondwa, associate director of Pediatric Ambulatory Care at Lincoln Health Center.
He said vaccinations save lives. The immunization clinics aim to give New Yorkers access to free health care they would not otherwise have.
Dr. Ssenyondwa said these events are more than just administering shots.
"This is our opportunity to talk to them about this, among other things, not just vaccination... about healthy living, the importance of sleep, good nutrition, health and physical activity," he said.
Alina Suarez, a nurse and mother of three, says access to these resources gives her peace of mind when sending her children back to school.
"Knowing that my children can grow well and different in their studies and in their sports. They can participate without worrying about having to be hospitalized for something that bad," she said.
