The New York City Ferry's website says starting Tuesday at 2 p.m. until the end of the day, ferry service will be suspended.
The website says that the suspension is because of heavy ice buildup in the East and Hudson Rivers and across New York Harbor. They say it can make for slow and unpredictable travel.
Irina says she didn't realize it was canceled until she arrived at the Brooklyn Army Terminal in Sunset Park.
“I looked at the application. Everything was OK. I came to my to my area. Then somebody came out and told everything is canceled," said Irina.
Commuters Susan Lacroix say while she's frustrated to reroute her travel plans, she's also understanding.
“With the water I guess it’s too cold, and I prefer not to have any accident you know," said Lacroix.
The website says riders should be prepared for the possibility of closures to last the next few days.
