Bronx residents head to the polls in extreme heat

They will be distributing fans, supplying water, and coordinating with Emergency Management and utility providers to make sure power stays on at poll sites.

It's primary election day, so make sure to head out and vote.
At the Sonia Sotomayor Community Center in Soundview, there was a steady stream of voters flowing through to cast their ballots - even in the heat.
Poll workers told News 12 the air conditioner was not working, making it uncomfortable for many people.
The Board of Elections is taking precautions during this extreme heat by distributing fans and water.
Gov. Kathy Hochul recently signed new legislation which allows refreshments to be provided while voters wait in line.
As of 3 p.m. on Tuesday, more than 68,000 residents cast their vote in the borough, between early voting and Election Day.
In the last city primary in 2021, more than 101,000 residents voted.
“There’s a lot of openings, very tough,” said Jamie Choquehuamani, of Soundview. “There’s a lot of different candidates. With the situation right now, it’s very tough. Hopefully the best will win.”
In order to vote in the primary, you need to be registered with a party.
