A 54-year-old teaching assistant from Nyack was arraigned on felony charges for endangering two nonverbal autistic children, prosecutors said.
Catherine Rios pleaded not guilty in Rockland County Court to two counts of first-degree endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person and two misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
The incidents occurred on Jan. 21 at the Jesse J. Kaplan School in West Nyack. Rios allegedly pushed the heads of two children, ages 6 and 7, underwater in the school's pool.
A judge ordered Rios to stay away from both children.
