Nassau University Medical Center is pausing some of its services for pregnant women.
The East Meadow hospital cited "longstanding operational challenges within its obstetrics program" as the reason for the change in a statement released to News 12, adding that the hospital must improve staffing ratios and modernize equipment.
While many of the services will be put on hold, the hospital said it will still care for patients in active labor or other urgent situations. Those in need of routine care or who have a scheduled delivery will be referred to other hospitals.
NUMC said it would resume operations as soon as enhancements are complete. However, a timeline was not provided.
