Twenty-one towns and cities across the state are holding municipal primary elections.
Polls are open until 8 p.m.
News 12 is tracking the race in Norwalk, where residents are casting their votes in the Democratic primary for mayor.
Incumbent Harry Rilling is not seeking reelection. Party-endorsed candidate Barbara Smyth is up against Darlene Young to get on November's ballot.
They both currently serve on the city's Common Council.
Norwalk voters tell News 12 they’re siding with candidates based on shared belief systems.
"I know it's gone out of style in this current environment, but that to me is something that Norwalk is representative of,” said Susan Chevalier, of Norwalk. “We're a very diverse city economically, socially, racially, whatever you want to say we're a diverse city. And I think that is really important to stand strong on those principles."
