Norwalk Public Schools held its inaugural 'Say Yes to a Prom Dress' event at the Family Center on Thursday.
Organizers say in just three weeks, the community generously donated nearly 250 prom dresses for the cause.
"It is mind blowing. The community of Norwalk is amazing — they made it happen," Frances Saez said.
High school seniors made an appointment, got paired up with a personal dress consultant and selected their dress, as well as accessories.
"It's just so pretty the thought people put into it, the balloons. It looks very nicely done. They didn't rush it, they actually took their time to make girls feel like they're getting their prom dress," Brien McMahon senior Arleny Abreu said.
Every kid who got a dress, also received a free ticket to the upcoming prom.
"It lets people know that there's always hope and that we can make anything possible if we come together as a community," Saez said.
The event continues Friday and Saturday this weekend. Organizers say they're already receiving donations for next year.
