Well tomorrow the streets in Norwalk will be blocked off for the city's Black Heritage parades. That is the first one in Norwalk in almost 3 decades. Our Leanna Wells spoke to the organizers of the parade about what folks can expect. We coming straight down from the top and going straight down up and then we're going around and coming back up. That's just part of the route for the Norwalk Black Heritage parade on Saturday. Organizer Melody Reagan walked the streets Friday morning to hand out some final reminders. The parade starts at 11 and then the black party starts at 12. Reagan, also known in the community as Sweets, says her team. Has been working on the parade every day for the past 6 months to ensure it's a success. The idea, first of all, it's long overdue. It's time to celebrate black excellence and the main thing is this isn't just for black people. This is for all people to celebrate black excellence. This isn't my parade. This isn't their parade. This is our, the city of Norwalk Black Heritage Parade last The Black Heritage Parade in Norwalk was back in 1998, making this the first one in 27 years. The parade starts at North Main Street near Doctor Martin Luther King Junior Drive. From there, Sweets says they walked down North Maine, which is known for being a historically black neighborhood. After the parade, a block party with vendors, food, and cultural showcases will be held at Washington. Street Plaza. There's so many um things to celebrate in the black community, you know, and we're not doing it. We haven't done it, but it's time to do it. Using this t-shirt printing press, the committee has already made over 100 t-shirts, each one with a different style, including this one, and they'll make plenty more during Saturday's parade.
