The largest healthcare system in New York, with a dozen hospitals on Long Island, is laying off some of its workforce.
Northwell Health says the moves were necessary to maintain the stability of the organization in the currently challenging healthcare landscape.
The cuts will mitigate financial pressures and preserve vital services for the communities they serve, the network says.
In a statement to News 12, the organization said “As part of this broader effort, we made the difficult decision to eliminate a limited number of positions in the organization.”
“Decisions like this are never taken lightly, and our priority in this situation is supporting the team members affected,” the statement continued.
A specific number and types of positions eliminated were not given.
Some employees will be matched to other open positions within the company that need to be filled.
Northwell Health is also the biggest private employer in the state with over 100,000 workers.
