Beginning tonight, crews will start removing the remainder of the North Avenue Bridge in New Rochelle. The span stretches over I-95 which will require overnight lane closures and traffic stops on both the thruway and North Avenue.
Two out of three lanes in both directions on I-95 will be closed and project officials say drivers can expect random traffic stops lasting up to 20 minutes to allow cranes to remove then load steel from the old bridge onto flatbed trucks.
The work is scheduled to run from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. over the next three weeks.
Thruway officials encourage drivers to begin avoiding the area after 8 p.m.
The $31.8 million project to replace the 65-year-old bridge began in 2023. The major portion of the work is expected to be completed by late fall.
