It's back to school for many towns and cities across the state this week.
There are some changes coming to the high schools in Fairfield.
The Fairfield Board of Education says students' phones must be placed in secure pouches all day.
This goes into effect for the high schools on Oct. 6.
Personal electronic devices and cellphones must be turned off and placed in a school issued secure phone pouch from the first bell of the school day until students are dismissed for the day.
Devices cannot be stored in a pocket or on the body.
This includes all instructional time.
The phone will be confiscated for the first offense. If it continues, those cellphones won't be allowed at school for the rest of the year.
Gov. Ned Lamont had brought up this idea of taking cellphones away from kids during the school year so students could learn better and be less distracted.
