Following a summer of delays and chaos on the rails and a week of free rides at the end of August, New Jersey Transit is offering customers a new, "cozy" discount for fall.
From now until Nov. 3, customers who have the NJ Transit mobile app can use the promo code “FALLFRIENDS24” to purchase a buy one, get one free round-trip ticket between any origin and destination as part of the "Fall Into Savings" program. Riders can buy up to two round-trip tickets, which must both be activated on the same day. Only one code can be used per account during the promotion.
"NJ Transit is inviting customers to get out and enjoy autumn activities with friends and family," the agency said in a statement.
In addition to the free ticket, customers who use the promotional code will also earn 50 bonus NJ Transit Rewards points.
NJ Transit says the goal is to get people to leave their cars behind and use mass transit to get out and enjoy fall activities. The offer is only available in the mobile app and tickets must be used by 2 a.m. On Nov. 4, when the promo code officially expires. According to NJ Transit, there are a few stipulations that riders should be aware of before taking advantage of the fall discount. For one thing, the tickets purchased through the offer must have a Newark destination such as Penn Station, Broad Street or any of the light rail stations or bus stops in Newark. The tickets will not be refundable and they're non-transferable. Also, the promotion also can't be used to travel to or from Newark Liberty International Airport, SEPTA or Metro-North Stations. They also cannot be combined with other offers or discounts such as those offered for senior citizens or the military.
The agency recommends that people who purchase the "BOGO" tickets activate them before boarding the train, instead of waiting until the ride is underway. Full details of the "Fall Into Savings" program are available at https://www.njtransit.com/bogo.
