NJ racetrack regular Paco Lopez rides Napoleon Solo to Preakness victory
Napoleon Solo surged past Iron Honor in the final stretch Saturday to capture the 151st Preakness Stakes, earning his first win of 2026 after finishing fifth in his previous two races.
Paco Lopez, the jockey who rode Napoleon Solo to victory, is a regular at Monmouth Park. He won 33% percent of his races there a year ago, winning 86 of 264, according to Monmouth Park officials.
With Kentucky Derby champion Golden Tempo not competing, the Preakness featured a wide-open field at Laurel Park, which is hosting the race while Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore undergoes renovations.
Napoleon Solo went off at 7-1 odds. Lopez, 40, has over 4,400 career wins.
