News 12 viewer a liver donor match for former News 12 reporter Amy McGorry
Former News 12 reporter Amy McGorry has found her perfect living liver donor match - and she says it’s all thanks to News 12’s coverage of her story.
McGorry told News 12 that an acquaintance of the family saw the segment and reached out after learning about her long struggle with two chronic liver diseases.
The viewer, who is currently anonymous, quietly went through the testing process and discovered they were a perfect match.
They later called McGorry with the news, which she then shared with her former newsroom.
The surgery is scheduled for June.
McGorry has spent most of her life living with autoimmune hepatitis and primary biliary cholangitis, also known as PBC, both conditions that cause permanent liver damage.
In March, her health began to rapidly decline. She suffered sudden fainting spells and internal bleeding, prompting doctors to tell her she urgently needed a liver transplant.
From that moment, the race to find a donor began.
