Newport PATH train fire sends 9 to hospital; PATH train service restored

Thirteen people were treated for smoke inhalation, and nine were taken to the hospital for further evaluation.

PATH trains are running again after a fire broke out Monday morning under an eastbound train at the Newport Station in Jersey City.
The train filled with smoke around 6:19 a.m., prompting an evacuation onto the platform. Thirteen people were treated for smoke inhalation, and nine were taken to the hospital for further evaluation.

PATH employees and Jersey City Fire Department crews responded quickly, and the fire was cleared.
All PATH lines have now resumed service.
