A hunt is underway in Newark for a woman spotted on surveillance video during last week's daytime shootout that left a juvenile injured and facing multiple charges.
The incident occurred on last Thursday, at approximately 2:38 p.m.
Newark police officers initially rushed to the intersection of 15th Avenue and Hayes Street following a ShotSpotter notification. While responding officers did not find any victims at the immediate scene, they discovered clear ballistics evidence, including a parked vehicle that had been struck by gunfire.
Shortly after the shooting, police received a report that a juvenile male had arrived at University Hospital seeking treatment for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
Detectives reviewing surveillance cameras from the neighborhood quickly identified the injured juvenile as a suspect in the shooting itself. After being treated, the minor was arrested and hit with a slate of charges, including two counts of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and possession of firearms by a minor.
As the investigation continues, shooting detectives noted a female acquaintance or witness at the scene during the gunfire. Director Miranda and the Newark Police Department are now requesting the community's assistance in identifying her to piece together exactly what triggered the shootout.
Anyone with information regarding her identity or the incident is urged to contact the Newark Police Division's 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). All calls are kept confidential.
