Public safety operations are shifting in Newark as officials respond to ongoing tensions outside Delaney Hall.
The Newark Police Department will now lead operations around the ICE facility, according to Attorney General Jennifer Davenport.
The city’s curfew remains in effect from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. in areas surrounding the site.
Mayor Ras Baraka says the city is taking a more community-based approach. He is expected to hold a press conference later today, calling for the immediate closure of the facility. The mayor also plans to outline an updated public safety plan.
Baraka says he will highlight the reasons behind the protests, including concerns about people being detained without due process.
