A shooting and a car crash in Newark early Monday morning sent at least two people to the hospital and left others without power.
Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé says police responded to the 700 block of Sanford Avenue for a shooting that took place around 3 a.m. Authorities found a man who had been shot.
The shooting victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment and is reportedly in stable condition.
Fragé says police also found a car that had crashed at the scene and was lying on its side. Two victims were inside the crashed vehicle with Newark firefighters freeing one male victim from the vehicle. He was also taken to University Hospital for treatment and is reportedly in stable condition.
There’s no word on the identity or condition of the other person who was inside the vehicle.
The car crash took out a light pole and transformer leading to a brief power outage at Abinger Place from Silver Street to South Orange Avenue.
The crash remains under investigation.
