New York City data shows more Bronx residents may be going without air conditioning in this extreme heat than anywhere else in the city.

In the Bronx, data shows 14.4% residents don't have access to air conditioning. In Morrisania, that number is 24.2%.

This leaves Bronx residents at a disproportionate risk of getting sick or dying from the heat. City data lists the Heat Vulnerability Index by neighborhood. The lists are score based on key factors including surface temperature, green space, air conditioning access, median income, and Black population.

Each neighborhood is ranked on a scale of one to five with five being the most at risk.

For example, in the Bronx, Mott Haven, Melrose, Morrisania, Hunts Point all have a score of 5 (highest), while Riverdale scored 1 (lowest). Throgs Neck, Pelham Bay and City Island are at a 2.

Cooling centers including libraries, senior centers, and community centers with air conditioners will be open again today across the city.
