Voters will soon get to choose a new mayor in New York’s seventh-largest city.
The open seat to replace four-term New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson will pit Democratic Councilwoman Yadira Ramos-Herbert against Republican challenger Louis Trangucci.
Bramson has been mayor since January 2006.
Primary voters in New Rochelle made history this summer when Ramos-Herbert was selected as the first woman and person of color to lead a major party line for mayor in the city. The mother of two has been a councilwoman since 2019 and is an associate dean at Columbia University Law School - with a long political to-do list.
Trangucci is the Westchester County Parks Department recreational leader and a former three-term city councilman. If he wins, Trangucci would be the first Republican in three decades to lead New Rochelle, where the Democrats hold a more than three to one enrollment advantage.
