After over 70 arrests were made Memorial Day Weekend, Seaside Heights officials have made changes to local ordinances.
Borough officials passed two new ordinances in an effort keep the boardwalk safe.
Certain bags will not be allowed after 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. No bag larger than 8 inches by 6 inches by 8 inches will be allowed - that includesbookbags, satchels and coolers. Exceptions will be made for medical care or baby essentials.
Hours on the boardwalk are going to be limited. The boardwalk will close from midnight to 6 a.m. tonight and Sunday night. The boardwalk is closed 1-6 a.m. Friday night, Saturday night and federal holidays.
Police had to deal with fights and three stabbings along the boardwalk Memorial Day weekend, with 52 adults and 21 juveniles taken into custody.
Just days after that chaos, a New Jersey law went into effect that would increase penalties for public brawls. Under the new law, inciting a public brawl would be a fourth-degree crime that could result in up to 18 months in jail and a $10,000 fine.
The 10 p.m. curfew is still in place for those under 18 in Seaside Heights.
