The Walton Campus, comprised off five Bronx high schools, unveiled its new library.

Michael Mulgrew, president of the United Federation of Teachers of Teachers, said this was a collaborative effort. He said it started with the faculty.

"All five schools got together, and said, why do our children not have access to a library?" said Mulgrew.

School faculty, in a partnership with the United Federation of Teachers, Borough President Vanessa Gibson and Councilman Eric Dinowitz, launched the space with a ribbon cutting on Monday.

"It's really a testament to the power of our community when we work together...we get things done!" said Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson.

A new, furnished space contains shelves stacked with books and new computers for students to use.

"Every day students are giving me recommendations, and we have these long conversations about what should be in this library and how they envision it," said librarian Maria Simon. ""I'm excited to bring new programing. Excited to have students come in and feel welcome here."

The library is officially open for students to utilize.
