A Cumberland County jury has found a Hopewell Township man guilty of murdering his parents in their home in 2023, prosecutors announced Friday.
Craig Williams, 37, formerly of Hopewell Township, was convicted July 2 on eight counts, including two counts of first-degree murder, following a jury trial in Cumberland County Superior Court. He was also found guilty of weapons offenses, tampering with physical evidence, hindering apprehension and obstruction.
Prosecutors said New Jersey State Police responded to the family's Tipton Drive home on March 13, 2023, to conduct a welfare check after relatives had not heard from Brenda Williams and Billy Williams Jr. since March 9. When troopers arrived, Craig Williams told them his parents were not home. Investigators later entered the residence and found both victims dead in their bedroom and bathroom. Authorities said both had been stabbed numerous times.
During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence that Williams discarded or attempted to discard evidence after the killings, including bloody clothing, gloves, shoes, towels, a surveillance camera and the victims' cellphones.
Williams is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 28. He faces 30 years to life in prison on each murder conviction.
