Super Bowl Sunday isn’t just the biggest day of the year for football fans — it’s also one of the busiest for delis across New Jersey.
At Roosevelt’s American Homestyle Deli in Fords, the pace picked up early, with call after call coming in for game-day spreads.
“Calls start coming in, believe it or not, right after the holidays, right after Christmas and New Year’s,” said Michael Castro of Roosevelt’s. “People start inquiring. We usually post our catering Super Bowl packages at the beginning of January. As soon as the playoffs kick off, orders are flying in.”
Delis like Roosevelt’s prepare weeks in advance, offering everything from wings to oversized party subs designed to feed entire families. Castro said the preparation often starts well before kickoff.
“We were prepping wings and items all last night, and today’s the big game,” he said. “Everyone’s waiting for the anticipation of football, buffalo wings and subs.”
Castro said Roosevelt’s prepared between 1,200 and 1,500 pounds of wings for Super Bowl Sunday alone and expected to make between 80- and 90-party subs, some stretching up to six feet long.
