A routine evening stop on the Loop 3 bus route turned frightening Saturday night when a Transport of Rockland bus careened out of control in a busy Ramapo shopping center.
Security video from the Hive Kosher Market shows the bus
swerving within feet of the store before jumping a curb, spinning around and crashing into several parked cars.
The driver, who the bus company says suffered a medical emergency, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern and released Sunday morning. No passengers were on board at the time, and no serious injuries were reported.
Shoppers described panic as the bus barreled through the lot.
“People ran out of the store…very terrified,” said Joel Malik of Hive Market.
Another witness recalled hearing the commotion before seeing the bus “circling, circling, circling.”
Transport of Rockland serves nearly 4,000 riders a day. As the investigation continues, questions remain about the driver’s condition and what caused the sudden loss of control.
