A New Canaan woman is working to help a friend find a living donor during National Kidney Month.
Chyna Macharie, of Brooklyn, was diagnosed with lupus at 22 years old.
"Lupus nephritis basically means that my lupus when it flared it attacked my kidneys so I’m in end stage reno failure," says Macharie.
The 24-year-old is looking for a kidney donor, as she undergoes dialysis three times a week.
"My body doesn't really tolerate dialysis well in general, said Macharie. So a living kidney donor would just give me a better quality of life in general."
Jen Benson, of New Canaan, is helping Macharie spread her message as she knows about organ donation first hand as a recipient herself.
"Can't save her life through organ donation. If they could just share her story and spread it as wide as they possibly could through social media or through a flyer, we would be eternally grateful," said Benson.
