Finding a parking spot in Hoboken can sometimes feel like a commute all by itself. Now, a new app called Makeway is hoping to make the search a little easier.
Created by husband-and-wife team Keven and Julie Quiroz, the app connects drivers who are leaving parking spots with others nearby who are looking for one.
Users can pin their location in the app, allowing other drivers in the area to receive real-time notifications when a spot is about to open up.
Makeway says it covers the cost of a reward when a parking spot is successfully handed off. The company hopes the service will help drivers spend less time circling the block while potentially reducing traffic, double parking and frustration on the road.
The app launched this Summer in Hoboken with 300 users, with plans to expand to other areas.
Drivers will still need to pay any required parking fees, and the app does not guarantee a spot will be available when they arrive.
