Across the country and around the city, there's a push to build the relationship between the community and the police.

Communities across New York City celebrated National Night Out, with dozens of events designed to strengthen relationships between residents and police.

News 12 cameras were at the 77th Precinct's event at Brower Park in Crown Heights.

"The way that we get what we need in this community is by coming together. That what it's really about," said Teri Coaxum, vice president of the 77th Precinct Community Council.

There are more than 70 events happening across the five boroughs, featuring activities such as bounce houses, barbecues, face painting and other family-friendly entertainment.

Among the highlights, the 72nd Precinct in Sunset Park will raffle off a free bicycle, while the 90th Precinct's event at Rodney Park in Williamsburg will feature the Brooklyn Public Library's Bookmobile.

All the events are expected to have NYPD officers and personnel meeting neighbors in the area they serve.
