Security has been stepped up on Long Island as tensions rise in the Middle East.
Israel struck Iran’s nuclear sites and killed top military leaders, Thursday night. On Friday, Iranian missiles struck Israel in retaliation for the attack.
All of these actions are putting Long Islanders and local police are on high alert.
Nassau police released a statement saying in part:
The Nassau County Police Department Intelligence Lead Development Center has been tracking the escalating tensions in the Middle East. Our Homeland Security House of Worship Desk has been gathering the most current information on the threat climate both internationally and domestically.
Suffolk police said that "In light of recent events in the Middle East, Suffolk County Police are increasing patrols and checks at all Jewish and Muslim institutions."
Both counties emphasize that there is no credible threat on Long Island at this time.
