One day after Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman and Democratic lawmakers squared off over the fate of the county's capital plan, the funding for several programs and improvements remains at a standstill.
Democratic legislators have stated they are in favor of the plan, but are demanding Blakeman guarantee funding their requests for equipment for first responders in their district, including fire and police departments.
The county executive, and Republican legislators argue that by abstaining from voting for the plan, Democrats are withholding necessary funds for safety equipment for police officers, new ambulances and traffic improvements to the county's roads.
The Legislature is expected to discuss the matter further at their next full meeting, scheduled for April 23.
