A renewed memorial in Eisenhower Park is ensuring the legacy of Nassau County firefighters lost to the Sept.11 attacks and related illnesses will never be forgotten. The updated firefighter plaza features 56 names, including seven newly added this year, honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities.

The memorial recognizes firefighters who died on 9/11, as well as those who later succumbed to illnesses linked to their work at Ground Zero. According to John Henning of the Nassau County Memorial Endowment, the site serves as a permanent place for reflection and education, allowing future generations to learn about the sacrifices made that day and in the years that followed.

“These names will never be forgotten,” Henning said, emphasizing the memorial’s role in preserving the memory of Nassau County’s fallen heroes.
