At least three people were wounded Monday during separate incidents of violence along the West Indian American Day Parade route, according to police.

Investigators say the first two victims were wounded by gunfire, while a third person was stabbed.

According to police, a man was shot around 4 p.m. near 800 Nostrand Ave. Around five minutes later, and half a mile away, a woman fell victim to gun violence at Eastern Parkway and Kingston Avenue. Both victims are expected to survive, the NYPD says. Their ages were not immediately available.

A heavy police presence took over a stretch of Nostrand Avenue, as investigators worked to figure out what sparked the first shooting. The NYPD says a person of interest was taken into custody and a gun was recovered at the scene.

As for the second shooting, police say they are searching for two people who ran from the scene.

Around an hour and a half later, a 32-year-old man was stabbed in the leg near Brooklyn Avenue and Eastern Parkway. Paramedics took him to Kings County Hospital, where he is expected to recover, according to the NYPD.

Officers then responded to a call of shots fired just after 6 p.m. near 1572 Pitkin Ave. Nobody was wounded during that incident.

The NYPD says it is also investigating a knife attack that happened early Monday morning near the parade route, before festivities kicked off.
