Several people are without a home after a fire broke out late Saturday night in Fairview. Officials say the flames tore through a duplex near 8th and McKinley streets, sending heavy smoke and fire into the air.
Neighbors told News 12 they first heard loud explosions before rushing outside. One resident described hearing “boom, boom, boom,” followed by crackling sounds, while another said it sounded like a small explosion.
According to fire officials, one person was injured and taken to the hospital. That person’s condition had not been released as of Sunday evening. Witnesses say the victim suffered burns, but first responders quickly assisted them. The fire caused severe damage to the home, leaving seven people displaced. Residents say the loss has been devastating. “In an instant, all your stuff is gone,” one neighbor said. Officials say the fire appears to have started in the rear of the building. Crews initially attempted to fight the fire from inside but were forced to pull back due to dangerous conditions and switch to a defensive strategy. The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
