Multiple officers were injured after an explosion led to a house fire in Queens.
Police say that the officers responded to a 911 call for a domestic dispute inside the home on 130th Street in South Ozone Park just before 3 a.m. The call was made by a resident who said a family member, 50-year-old Anroop Parasram, arrived at the resident while intoxicated. They also smelled gas.
Parasram went into the basement where his wife, daughter and two grand children lived. Video in the area shows Parasram with a garbage bag filled with canisters and an unknown substance. He forced his way into the home by pushing an air conditioner unit with a knife and threatened his wife. When officers arrived, she gave them the keys to the home when the explosion occurred
According to FDNY, they responded to a call of a house fire around 3 a.m. The fire also spread to the house next door.
Eight police officers had minor injuries and were taken to the hospital and while 16 people are displaced. Parasram has not been located.
