An investigation is underway in Putnam County after mutilated animals were found near Lake Carmel on Monday.
According to officials, seven animals, including chickens, roosters and doves, were found.
Chief Ken Ross with the Putnam County SPCA says there were also, what they believe to be, two rooster heads.
Ross says all seven birds had their heads removed and were found severely mutilated.
They were found in two white garbage bags and a cardboard box in the area of Route 52 near Lake Carmel.
This isn't the first time there have been similar discoveries.
Back in April and October of 2025, News 12 reported that other mutilated birds were found in the same general area.
"We've canvased different areas where people said there were chickens or livestock and no one has any chickens or livestock missing. What it appears is, it might be coming from the south, but then again, you know, it's very difficult with this sort of thing," said Ross.
Ross says these could possibly be the result of ritualistic killings. The Putnam County SPCA is investigating.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the SPCA at 845-520-6915.
