Mount Vernon neighbors say an empty lot has become a dumping ground for trash and a concerning eyesore.
The lot is located at the corner of Adams Street and Franklin Avenue.
"When you see this and it's been like this for quite some time, you do get discouraged, like what's going on," said Mount Vernon resident, Robert Zanfordino.
Residents told News 12 they're concerned about it.
"You see all kinds of garbage being dumped over there, it's a dumping ground. The racoons, the rats, the mice," said a woman who lives in the area.
News 12 previously reported in 2023 about a house there.
People called it the "zombie house," and it ended up getting demolished.
The property is privately owned.
A member of the property ownership team told News 12 that the trash is the result of illegal dumping.
They say they've contacted police about it and are in the process of cleaning it up. There was a man at the location Friday who said he has been working on that.
People with the property say they're aiming to build townhomes here.
They told News 12 they submitted plans to the city a couple years ago and are waiting on approvals.
An official with city sent News 12 the following information:
"This is a privately owned property, so the next steps will ultimately be determined by the property owner, including what they plan to build and the timeline for development. In 2022, the property owner submitted an application to construct new townhomes on the site. That proposal is currently going through the city’s planning process."
