Ariane Sanchez says she wants answers after she says her 13-year-old daughter was attacked by a pitbull in East New York. Police confirm they responded to the incident on Stanley Avenue in East New York on Friday.
Sanchez says her daughter was inside the lobby of the building when she and her sister noticed a woman with an unleashed pitbull walking into the building.
“The dog wasn’t on a leash. The entrance right here is two doors. She had an ample amount of time to put that dog on leash when she got to the second entrance," said Sanchez.
Her daughter needed stitches and showed News 12 doctors' notes that her daughter was out of school for a few days and got rabies shots. She says her daughter's injuries aren't just physical.
“She was on Instagram yesterday. She just so happened to see a video of a pitbull. She was fine until she saw the video. Then her leg started shaking. You know, so she's very, very distraught. She’s nervous, she doesn’t want to sleep by herself," said Sanchez.
News 12 crews observed security cameras in the lobby, but it's unclear if the incident was caught on video. News 12 reached out to the building's management company about the video and the incident, but hasn't heard back yet.
“We'll get some type of resolution to this situation. Hopefully, this lady will turn herself in," said Sanchez.
Sanchez says she plans on taking the incident to court.
The New York City Department of Health tells News 12 it is investigating the incident.
