A Moriches mother is pleading for help in finding her 14-year-old son who hasn’t been seen since Friday.
Christy Stark says her son, Liam, was dropped off at school by his older brother that morning but never went inside. School security cameras later showed him walking toward the building before turning around and leaving.
“According to the school’s cameras, he started walking to the school and then you can watch him contemplate if he’s going in or not,” Stark said.
The surveillance video also shows Liam wiping away tears before walking away. Stark says her son has been struggling with personal trauma. She believes he may be trying to cope with it on his own.
“I think that in a very wounded way, this was his ‘I can make it,’” she said.
Neighbors have been rallying around the family, even dropping off groceries, as the search continues. Still, Stark says her only focus is bringing her son home safe.
“I just want to give him the world,” she said. “I am sending love to him, and I hope he can feel it wherever he is and that it can help him come home.”
Police say Liam was last seen Friday evening on Smith Road near Wertheim Road in Shirley.
Police urge anyone with information to call 911 or the Suffolk County Police Department Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752.
