A three-alarm fire tore through a row of businesses in Midwood Thursday.
FDNY says the fire started in a restaurant around 4:15 p.m.
Huge billows of smoke could be seen on Citizen video, from the roof of a building blocks away.
“It was like smoke on the roof,” said one witness. “The fire didn't spread but they had to break through everything. The roof is coming down inside there.”
At least six businesses were impacted, as a result of the fire. Some of them, completely destroyed, including at Five Star Barbershop.
“It's Eid tomorrow,” said Safyan, one of the barbershop owners. “So, we have been really busy these days. We work like 13, 14 hours every day. There were mad customers inside when the fire happened. They were scared and they all ran outside. ”
The owners say they just reopened with new renovations a week ago. For the past few days, they’ve been working day and night preparing for Eid on Friday, a commemoration of the end of Ramadan.
“I cried a lot,” said Safyan. “My brothers cried. We lost everything from this store. We have to make a new one.”
Most importantly, no one was hurt.
All six businesses are expected to soon be boarded up.
The official cause of the fire has not been released.
