A major change is underway at MetLife Stadium as preparations continue for the upcoming World Cup matches.
Natural grass is being installed at the stadium to replace its artificial turf, a move required for all World Cup games.
The work marks a significant shift for the East Rutherford stadium, which is primarily used by the New York Giants and New York Jets and typically features artificial turf.
MetLife’s turf surface has drawn controversy in recent years, with some players and critics blaming it for injuries. Officials say, however, the switch is tied to World Cup regulations, which mandate that matches be played on natural grass.
Similar changes are happening in other host cities. In Philadelphia, workers were seen installing natural grass at Lincoln Financial Field, which will also host World Cup matches.
