Plans to bring a casino to Nassau County could impact Long Islanders way before anyone gambles a dollar.
The Draft Environmental Impact Statement by Las Vegas Sands for infrastructure work and other projects details a widening of a stretch of the Meadowbrook Parkway to four lanes, as well as changes to ramps and bridges.
There would also be work done to enhance the power grid and water systems - Sands has agreed to commit $150 million toward the improvements.
Planning experts tell News 12 that the Meadowbrook needs the improvements, casino or no casino, and that most construction would likely take place at night or during off-peak hours to limit disruptions.
However, a lane would likely need to be closed during those times.
The public can voice their thoughts at a meeting on Dec. 9 at the Nassau County Legislature.
