A man was found dead in a lake at Third Ward Park in Passaic on Tuesday morning, Mayor Hector Lora said.

In a Facebook video, Lora said police received a call shortly before 11 a.m. about a bag in Hughes Lake. Responding officers and park attendants subsequently discovered a man in the water.

The mayor says the deceased was a Passaic resident over the age of 50. His identity was not released.

The medical examiner responded to the scene.

Lora said authorities did not suspect foul play, although the investigation remains ongoing.

Lora said the city delayed releasing information about the discovery until the man's family had been notified.
