A public hearing took place Wednesday night on a proposed commercial development known as Cedar Corners, a project currently in the early stages of the Clarkstown Planning Board's land-use review process.

The project proposes four warehouse and office space buildings totaling 560,000 square feet.

The proposal calls for a mix of warehouse space, commercial offices and a drive-thru restaurant along Route 303 in Congers. The development would be built on roughly 41 acres near the existing shopping center off Meola Road.

Town officials say the planning board previously said this project has the potential to negatively impact the environment and asked the developer to conduct a full environmental review, which they did.

Residents say they're concerned about increased traffic, the loss of open space and possible effects on nearby property values.

Others said that they're not entirely against the project but want to make sure everything is looked at and considered before it moves forward.

The public hearing drew a large crowd and lasted hours. No decision was made.
