A Mantua man has been sentenced to 10 years in state prison for sexually assaulting a teenager on his wife’s cheerleading team.
The Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office says Michael Brown, 46, admitted to repeatedly having intercourse with a victim between the ages of 13 and 16 inside his home.
This occurred while he had “supervisory power” over the victim and was legally responsible for taking care of them, according to a press release.
Brown pleaded guilty in June to one count of aggravated sexual assault of a minor.
Prosecutors say he must serve 85% of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
He will be subject to lifetime parole supervision following his release, required to register as a sex offender and barred from any involvement in youth sports.
His wife, Valerie Brown, was a coach and organization president for the Harrison Sparks cheerleading squad.
Prosecutors say child endangerment and criminal sexual contact charges are pending.
