Haverstraw police want the public's help in finding 18-year-old Yandie Martinez who was last known to live in Haverstraw.
He is the suspected killer of 29-year-old Christian Alvarado, of Pomona, who was shot and killed while driving down Fairmount Avenue Monday afternoon.
"I knew whoever was in the car was dead,” said Julio Ortiz, the super for the apartment building where shots rang out outside of around 4 p.m. Monday. "I've been running this building for 44 years. Never anything like that."
"We're not going to stop until we get him into custody," said Haverstraw Police Chief John Gould who was sworn in last week.
News 12 was told by police it was not a random attack and there was some sort of altercation before the incident.
Gould said, "this was still very dangerous because shots were fired in a very crowded downtown area and anybody could have possibly got hit by a stray."
Community members tell News 12 they have faith law enforcement will find him.
"This is a small town,” said Ortiz. “They'll find him."
"I just hope justice is served,” said a local man named Jeremy.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Haverstraw Police Department at 845-354-1500.
