Two Manchester officers are being called heroes this week after pulling an elderly man from a sinking car.

One of those responding officer's lifeguard training helped save the man's life.

While the two officers were attending another call, the radio blared "a car went into a lake, there is one person in the driver's side, he is unable to open the door. He is slowly sinking into the lake."

And with that radio call, Manchester police officers Sean Rembach and Don Miller hightailed it to the gated Renaissance community, where they found the man on top of his sinking car.

"Holding on to his front pillar of his car about this high was above water and yelling for help," said Officer Rembach.

Police say the 86-year-old tried making a K-Turn but hit the gas instead of the brake and ended up in a pond.

Rembach's body camera captures him removing his vest and gun belt before he jumped into the pond to reach the man.

His partner, Officer Miller, knew exactly what to do next.

"I lifeguarded at Jenkinson's for 10 years, so the line pull I was doing I have done a couple times before," said Officer Miller.

"Awesome throw with the throw bag; it landed perfectly in my hand, might even have to be drafted to the Eagles," said Officer Rembach.

Officer Miller pulled Rembach and the man to shore.

"I was off the top of that car onto shore so fast, I couldn't believe I thought oh my god I'm moving so fast through the water right now," said Officer Rembach.

The car was totaled. A sunfish ended up inside the sunken car. The 86-year-old driver was lucky.

"Very lucky he had some neighbors, good neighbors, who woke up and called 911 so quickly," said Officer Rembach.

Police say the uninjured driver was even able to crack some jokes while drying off saying things like he needed a new coffee because his is at the bottom of the pond and it was time for a new car.
