One week after a nor'easter caused widespread damage along the Jersey Shore, Manasquan is still recovering from the storm's effects.
During the storm, water from the Manasquan Inlet crashed over the road outside Riverside Cafe, rushing toward the business and surrounding homes. The water largely stopped at the curb line.
The cafe's owners said it was one of the worst storms they have experienced in their 60 years living in town, though they were fortunate flooding did not reach the levels seen during Superstorm Sandy.
"It's always memories of Sandy. It's always interesting to see that much water come in so quickly, and I feel bad for the people that did get flooded. We were fortunate that the wind switched a little bit at the right time from northeast to north, and had pushed it off a little bit and that little bit," said Michael Parziale of Riverside Cafe.
Manasquan's beaches are also still recovering. The storm caused significant erosion, stripping away sand that had covered an 80-year-old wooden groin system designed to protect the shoreline against erosion.
