A man charged with vandalizing a Rutgers Islamic center last year was sentenced to six months in jail.
Jacob Beacher, of North Plainfield, pleaded guilty to a federal hate crime in October for breaking into the Center for Islamic Life at Rutgers University in New Brunswick in April of 2024.
Beacher stole a Palestinian flag, smashed televisions, destroyed phones and broke printers inside the building. The incident took place during the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr.
Officials say Beacher caused thousands of dollars in property damage.
