A man being arrested for disorderly conduct in Newtown on Sunday is accused of sucker-punching a police officer in the face.
Officers were called to a disturbance near Hanover Road when 40-year-old Daniel Morris raised his hands in an apparent gesture of surrender. Police say he then punched Officer Hyvarinen in the face.
Police say a struggle followed but Officer Hyvarinen ultimately took control. Both suffered minor injuries.
Morris was charged with assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. He is being held on a $75,000 bond.
