A man was hospitalized Thursday after being carjacked while leaving a Sonic restaurant in Elizabeth just after 6 p.m.
According to a statement from the Elizabeth Police Department, the victim left his vehicle and went inside the Sonic on Spring Street to pick up his food order. When he walked out of the restaurant, he noticed an unknown man attempting to steal his vehicle.
"The victim opened the driver’s door, at which point the suspect pushed the victim out of the vehicle and ran him over while fleeing," police told News 12.
The victim was transported to University Hospital in Newark, but police say his injuries were not life-threatening.
Police have not yet announced any arrests connected to the incident. The case is under investigation.
